2nd Eco-schools Committee Meeting Held at Fujimidai Elementary School

The second Eco-Schools Committee meeting was held at Fujimidai Elementary School in Toshima Ward, Northern Tokyo. At the committee meeting, students enrolled with the Eco-Schools Committee and discussed how they would proceed with the project, the roles of the members and how to involve as many students as possible.

Firstly, they decided to mark the 10th of each month as "Eco Day" so that they could involve the whole school, particularly junior students. Secondly, they came up with a green charity campaign to collect money from students to get flower seeds to plant in the school garden to make the school greener. This was one of the action plans agreed at the last committee meeting. Thirdly, they are planning to hold a school-wide clean-up event on 4th June together with family members and local community groups.

Commenting on the project, Headmaster Kazuko Sudo said, "Students have been very proactive in driving the project and they are particularly interested in the upcoming Eco-Code contest. With the help of our art class teacher, they are now in the process of developing a successful poster. They have even started to plant Goya (bitter gourd) in order to cover the walls of our school building with a "green curtain" which will give us natural sun protection. All in all, I'm very proud to see them working so hard and indeed, so far, so good!"

The next committee meeting will be held on 7th June to conduct environmental research. HSBC volunteers will be joining them. Stay tuned for the next episode.
