Eco-Schools in Slovakia!
Slovak Republic is a country located in Central Europe, surrounded by the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary and Austria. There are magnificent mountains, plains and rivers, historical towns and plenty of remarkable cultural events. The Slovak's capital old town and castle are worth exploring, as are the historic town of Levoca and the castle of Spissky hrad. The rocky peaks of the Vysoke Tatry offer excellent hiking and mountaineering, while the Mala Fatra National Park offers scenic mountain valleys. Slovakia is a developed country also in the field of environmental education. One of the projects focused on environmental management of schools is the project Zelena Skola, the equivalent of Eco-Schools project in Slovakia.
Project Goals: The main goal of the project Zelena Skola is to help the schools to find the way how to become healthier, greener and more attractive school.
Pilot year: There are 48 schools registered in the pilot project 2004/2005, 36 primary schools and 12 secondary schools. The project involves all types of schools, both city and rural, state and private schools. It is crucial that the pilot project will develop more rules, media possibilities, fundraising and international cooperation.
Participation of schools: Every school if to join the project must fulfill the three conditions. The school follows all environmental legislation, principles of sustainable development and an active community scenario.
