Environment & Innovation - International Award Ceremony

The Environment and Innovation Project with the support of the Toyota Fund for Europe started a 1st Cycle on 2005-2007 with the theme ”Sustainable Mobility”, involving 4 countries (Italy, Germany, Spain, England and Northern Ireland).

In 2007-2009 the 2nd Cycle of the project was launched with the theme “Climate Change – Let’s Save Energy!”. It ends today, on February 11th 2010 with the International Award Ceremony in Turkey.

The International winner Project is “I Take Responsibility” from Gelištirme Vakfi Özel İlköğretim Okulu School – Turkey.

This project was selected among 6 National Winner Projects from Denmark, Finland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, and Turkey. An International Jury chaired by Henny Kromhout (FEE Executive Board Member and Eco-Schools Programme Responsable) chose the winner. The jury includes prominent members of European organizations such as TME (Toyota Motor Europe), UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), British Council, Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation and CSR Europe.

The winning project consists of installing card readers to switch on/off the lights in classrooms - similar to the ones found in hotels – and giving pupils’ responsibility to manage the card – and electricity use – for the day.

It excels in its innovation, energy efficiency and ability to be copied in other schools across Europe.

The 2007-2009 Cycle information booklet with details about each national winner is also launched today at the Turkish School International Award Ceremony and can be downloaded from the link below:
